The Brotherhood of Dimitsanites “Gregory V” is a legal entity under private law (non-profit), headquartered in Athens and founded in 1945. It is administered by a seven-member board and has maintained continuous activity ever since.
Its work spans community solidarity (blood-donor group, bone-marrow volunteer actions, free preventive/therapeutic medical visits to the Dimitsana Health Center), cultural programming (lectures, exhibitions, book publishing), and support for education (student awards) and local institutions. The Brotherhood has also contributed to key local projects such as the Municipal Hotel, the Open-Air Water Power Museum, and the town’s Interconference Cultural Center; it has been honored by the Academy of Athens and the Holy City of Messolonghi for its public service.
- May 22, 2025: Announced it would fund and undertake the conservation of statues in Dimitsana (pending municipal approval), commissioning a specialist to prepare studies.
- July 1, 2025: Secured sponsorship for constructing a basketball court at the Dimitsana Gymnasium courtyard (no municipal cost, subject to approval).
- Feb 6, 2024: Petitioned for the Olympic Flame relay to pass through Megalopolis and Dimitsana, highlighting the town’s historic role.
- Dec 2001: Received an Academy of Athens award recognizing long-standing civic contributions.
